The Football Association (FA) has handed Chris Brunt a one-match ban and £8,000 fine after the West Brom captain accepted a misconduct charge in relation to an incident in the FA Cup defeat at Aston Villa earlier this month.

Brunt was involved in a confrontation with an official as players left the pitch during West Brom's 2-0 quarter-final defeat at Villa Park earlier this month.

The FA subsequently charged Brunt with "using abusive and/or insulting words and/or behaviour towards a match official in or around the tunnel area after the final whistle".

The Northern Irishman requested a personal hearing, citing mitigating circumstances as thousands of fans had invaded the pitch at full-time.

Brunt was facing a possible two-match ban, but the FA has decided to shown leniency towards the former Sheffield Wednesday midfielder.

The suspension means Brunt will now sit out Saturday's encounter at Premier League champions Manchester City.
