Tyler Wright has won the World Surf League event at Bells Beach following a dominant performance in the final on Sunday.

The Australian surfer was too strong for five-time world champion Carissa Moore, claiming her first title at the location.

Her 8.93 score on her first wave backed up by an 8.00 gave her a total of 16.93, easily trumping Moore's 10.57.

After two losses in the 2013 and 2014 finals against the same opponent, it was third time lucky for Wright in 2022.

"Honestly this is a dream come true," Wright said after her victory.

"There's been so many times I wanted to give up on getting back to this sort of form. It's taken all of me. It's unbelievable."

Wright won her first world championship in 2016 before going on to win a second the following year.

However, in 2018, she was diagnosed with chronic fatigue syndrome, putting any title defence plans on hold.

Her Rip Curl Pro victory represents her first title on the WSL tour since the Maui Pro at Pipeline in 2021.

“I cannot put into words what this means,” she said.

“It’s more than a win. It’s the only event I’ve ever wanted to win. I’m over the moon ... I’m stoked.

“Two years being out is a long time - that fire that kind of got snuffed out by illness has been re-lit.

“It’s been a long time since I’ve felt like I’ve surfed like myself."

Filipe Toledo came out on top in the men's competition, defeating Australian rookie Callum Robson in the final.

The Brazilian also became the new world no. 1 in the process.
