Fernando Alonso is "completely fine" after making his first public statement since recovering from a crash in Formula One's pre-season testing in Barcelona last weekend.

The McLaren driver slammed into a wall at turn three at Circuit de Catalunya on Sunday and was subsequently airlifted to hospital after receiving treatment by the track.

Alonso remained under observation before being discharged on Wednesday as confusion reigned about the severity of his injuries and the cause of his accident.

McLaren team principal Ron Dennis confirmed that the Spaniard had a "period of unconsciousness" and there were fears that Alonso may miss the opening grand prix of the season in Melbourne next month.

However, Alonso appeared to suggest he would be back in time to race in Australia and was missing the final weekend of testing in Barcelona this weekend on the recommendation of doctors.

"As you can see I am completely fine," he said in a video posted on Youtube.

"I would like to be at the test this week in Barcelona, but the doctors' told me to wait a little bit and rest this weekend.

"I will rest this weekend and will keep you updated next week with my progress, then I will see you very soon on the track. Thank you for the support."
