Mollie O'Callaghan was looking to add to her impressive gold medal tally at the Paris Olympics when she competed in the women's 100m freestyle alongside fellow Aussie Shayna Jack this morning.

She had already won gold in the 200m freestyle and in the 4x100m freestyle relay - as did Jack - and she was looking to make it three from three in the freestyle.

She was facing stuff competition, here's how our Aussies got on.

Who won the women's 100m freestyle final?

Mollie O'Callaghan missed out on a bronze medal by 0.01 of a second in the 100m freestyle final, finishing fourth as Sweden's Sarah Sjöström won the gold medal.

The Swede finished with a time of 52.16, whilst Torri Huske of the USA and Hong Kong's Siobhan Haughey rounded off the medal places; O'Callaghan finished 0.18 seconds behind Sjöström.

O'Callaghan was behind the pack to begin the race, though this tends to be a favoured tactic of hers as she always looks to finish strongly, and she did just that as she powered home and looked like she was going to make it.

However, her timing appeared to desert her slightly, and it left her with just too much ground to make up, and saw her pipped at the post for the bronze medal.

Shanya Jack was one place further back in fifth, finishing 0.56 seconds behind the eventual race winner.
