Two athletes in the Olympic village have tested positive for COVID-19.
Tokyo 2020 confirmed the positive cases on Sunday morning (Australian time), with a total of three athletes testing positive.
Two of the athletes are currently living in the Olympic village. The third is an athlete, but is not in the village.
None of the three athletes are from Japan, and they are now in quarantine for 14 days.
The three positive tests are amoung 10 confirmed cases of COVID-19 announced on July 18.
Five "games-concerned personnel," one media member and a contractor have also all tested positive, the games confirmed on Sunday.
Almost 200 Australian athletes have officially checked in to the athletes' village as of this weekend.
Meanwhile, there was a COVID scare for Australia's track and field team over the weekend after an official returned an inconclusive test.
The official reportedly flew to the team's Cairns training camp from Melbourne and had interactions with several athletes.
As a precaution, the entire track and field team was quarantined until the official returned two negative tests.
The AOC confirmed the scare on Sunday afternoon.
"Prior to departing to Cairns from Melbourne, the staff member had also received a negative result as part of their standard 14 day pre-departure test, consistent with the AOC’s testing regime," a statement said.
"The inconclusive test triggered the two further more extensive tests to confirm the staff member’s negative status.
"It has also been confirmed that while in Melbourne the staff member had not been to any identified exposure sites and had followed all appropriate procedures.
"Athletics Australia has been working closely with Queensland Health with the staff member placed in quarantine pending final confirmation of their negative status expected later today."
More to come.
