Which athletes have been ruled out of the Olympics? image

With so much uncertainty and drama heading into the Tokyo Olympic Games, plenty of athletes have either been forced to withdraw or ruled themselves out.

For Australia, some huge names including Nick Kyrgios, Justis Huni and Liz Cambage have all withdrawn from the upcoming Games.

Coco Gauff is out of the Olympics for USA, while tennis legends Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal won't be competing.

Here's a full list of athletes that have withdrawn or been ruled out of the upcoming Olympic Games. 

AUSTRALIA

Ben Simmons has withdrawn from the upcoming Olympics after a tough end to the NBA season with Philadelphia. He will instead focus on improving his game in preparation for next year. 

Nick Kyrgios has ruled himself out of the Tokyo Games, citing empty stadiums and his body following a recent injury at Wimbledon.

Justis Huni has been forced to withdraw due to a hand injury following his fight with Paul Gallen in a cruel blow for the rising star, who was considered a genuine chance of claiming gold. 

Liz Cambage has withdrawn from the Olympics following an alleged breach of COVID protocols, as well as an incident during a scrimmage match with Nigeria. 

Alex De Minaur has unfortunately contracted COVID-19 and has been forced out of the Tokyo Games. 

Jack Haig has been ruled out of the Olympics, after he broke his collarbone in a horror crash at the recent Tour de France. 

Jamie Kermond has been banned from the upcoming Tokyo Games, after he was provisionally suspended following a positive cocaine test. 

UNITED STATES

Coco Gauff has been ruled out after testing positive for COVID-19, which is a huge blow for the teenage tennis star who described the Olympics as a 'dream come true'.

Katie Lou Samuelson has been ruled out of the 3x3 basketball, after she tested positive for COVID-19. 

SPAIN 

Rafael Nadal has withdrawn from Tokyo Games, instead looking to recover following a tough clay-court season. Nadal also missed Wimbledon recently. 

SWITZERLAND

Roger Federer has withdrawn from the upcoming Olympics due to a knee injury. 

SOUTH AFRICA

Thabiso Monyane and Kamohelo Mahlatsi have been forced into isolation and out of the Games after testing positive for COVID-19. 

NAMIBIA

Christine Mboma and Beatrice Masilingi have been banned from all races Olympics due to "a natural high testosterone level," per the country's National Olympic Committee.
