In his fourth Olympics, a record for an Australian male swimmer, sprint star Cam McEvoy looks to collect a maiden gold medal in the final of the men's 50m freestyle.

Having turned his focus to the 50m rather than the 100m and 200m, as well as dramatically reducing his training volume in the pool, McEvoy has found success in the all-out chaos of the one-lap dash.

With the race wrapped up in just over 20 seconds, anything can happen in this one.

McEvoy qualified equal fastest for the final, alongside Ben Proud, who tied for first in their semi final in a time of 21.38.

The 30-year-old Queenslander has been the form swimmer in this event in recent times, taking out the world championships last year in a time of 21.06 having adopted a vastly different approach to training.

According to bookmaker Sportsbet, McEvoy is the favourite at $1.80, with Team GB's Proud rated a $3.20 chance to win.
