Did Jess Fox win gold? Women's canoe single (C1) final results
She did it again.
Fox claimed her second gold medal at Paris 2024, taking out the canoe single event in dominant fashion.
The Australian had it all to do, with German Elena Lilik sitting in the provisional lead with a quick 103.54.
As the second-last paddler in the running order, the pressure was high, but as she has so often done, Fox delivered.
The 30-year-old made her way through the course with power and precision, with her steely focus evident during the entire run.
Her time of 101.06 – including a two-second time penalty – comfortably put her at the top of the standings.
The final athlete, Gabriela Satková, picked up some early time penalties and ultimately couldn't crack the podium.
The result marks Fox's second gold medal in the C1 event, having taken out the top prize at Tokyo 2020.
Fox reflected on the win, and compared it to her drought-breaking success in the event at the Tokyo Games: "The Tokyo experience was so special because it was that first Olympic gold medal, but [Tokyo] was mostly relief that I felt — it was like this sick feeling that turned into relief — whereas today was just pure joy.
"To be able to stay composed is the coolest feeling as an athlete; when you've worked so hard in training to be able to pull it off when it matters.
"That's what we all work towards, for that one day every four years and the fact that I did it twice is a credit to the hard work that we've put in and the whole team has put into me and I'm so grateful to them."
