There's a new superhero in town at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

He can't fly or teleport, and he doesn't have super speed or strength. He does, however, have a stylish speedo and a knack for retrieving lost swimming caps.

They call him "Bob the Cap Catcher." He's become an internet sensation after retrieving a swimming cap that Emma Webber lost during the women's 100-meter breaststroke on Sunday. His flowery speedo caught people's eyes, including the NBC broadcast who gave the man his nickname.

Bob the Cap Catcher received cheers and even waved to the crowd after performing his superhero duties.

Who is Bob the Cap Catcher? The Sporting News answers that question and more below.

Who is Bob the Cap Catcher?

Bob the Cap Catcher's real name is unknown, and he wants it to stay that way. It would be quite fitting, however, if his real name was Bob.

The NBC broadcast booth created the nickname Bob the Cap Catcher to identify this mystery man in a speedo as he rescued a sunken swimming cap.

Why Bob? Well, it's just a common name and it flows off the tongue easily. Superheroes can't have a forgettable name. It has to be catchy and something people can say easily like Superman or Batman.

It may not be as simplistic as one of the two aforementioned heroes, but Bob the Cap Catcher won't be forgotten by anyone in the swimming arena. His heroics, and flowery speedo, will remain engraved in people's memory for the foreseeable future.

The 2024 Paris Olympics are live until Aug. 11, so there's a chance that Bob the Cap Catcher will make more appearances.
