Australia Results Tokyo Olympic Games day 5, Aussies in action today: Titmus grabs second gold, double gold at the regatta image

Golden girl Ariarne Titmus headlined day five with another gold medal in the Women's 200m freestyle.

Arnie had an incredible last 25 metres that saw her claim her second gold medal of these Tokyo 2020 Games.

But it was an absolute gold rush for Australia on day five with our rowers picking up two of their own in the Women's and Men's four!

Still to come in the teams events, the Olyroos will meet Egypt in a Group C clash.

The Boomers, Hockeyroos and Kookaburras all recorded victories but their was major disappointment for the Olyroos after they were eliminated by Egypt.

Olympic Swimming results

Men’s 100m freestyle semifinal 2 - Kyle Chalmers finished second in his semi final, qualifying sixth fastest for the final with a time of 47.8.

Women’s 200m freestyle final - Gold

Ariarne Titmus won her second gold medal with an Olympic record performance, mowing down Hong Kong's Siobhan Haughey in a time of 1:53.50. Madi Wilson finished eighth, 2.89 seconds behind her compatriot.

Women’s 200m butterfly semifinal 2 - Brianna Throssell finished fourth in her semi final, qualifying sixth fastest for the final with a time 2:08.41.

Men's 200m breastroke semi finals - Zac Stubblety-Cook won his semi final and qualified fastest for the final with a time of 2:07.35, while Matthew Wilson finished seventh in his semi and missed out on final qualification.

Women’s 1500m freestyle final - American superstar Katie Ledecky won her first gold of the Games, taking out the first ever women's 1500m event. Aussie par Kiah Melverton and Maddy Gough finished sixth and eighth respectively.

Men's 4 x 200m freestyle relay final - Australia has taken out bronze in the 4 x 200m freestyle relay final. Thanks to a fantastic anchor leg from Tommy Neil, they claimed the medal and went so close to silver. 

Women's 100m freestyle heats - Australia's Emma McKeon put her rivals, including compatriot Cate Campbell, on notice after setting a new Olympic record of 52.13 in Heat 6. Campbell qualified for the semifinals with the fourth fastest time of 52.80/

Men's 200m backstroke heats - Tristan Hollard was the lone Australian to make qualify for the final 16 and will swim from lane 2 in the first semifinal on Thursday. Luke Greenbank of Great Britain qualified fastest, over a second clear of his nearest rival in a time of 1:54.63.

Women's 200m breastroke heats - Jenna Strauch will fly the Aussie flag in the semifinals after qualifying in a time of 2:23.30. Outspoken American Lilly King recorded the fastest qualifying time of 2:22.10, 

Men's 200m individual medley heats - Mitch Larkin qualified ninth fastest and will swim from lane 2 in the second semifinal on Thursday. Controversial American Michael Andrew logged the quickest qualifying time of 1:56.40.

Women's 4 x 200m freestyle relay heats - Australia qualified for Thursday's final in a time of 7:44.61, three seconds clear of the USA (7:47.57) and China (7:48.98).

Olympic rowing results

Women’s Double Sculls B Final - The Australian pair of Amanda Bateman and Tara Rigney won their B final ahead of France and Italy, sealing seventh place in the event.

Women's Fours Final - Gold

Australia claimed the gold medal with a professional performance in tough, windy conditions. The Netherlands mounted a serious challenge but the Aussie lineup of Lucy Stephan, Rosie Popa, Jessica Morrison and Annabelle McIntyre held on, finishing 0.34 seconds in front in a time of 6:15.37.

Men's Fours Final - Gold

Having just watched the women's fours take out the gold, the men matched the feat moments later. Alex Purnell, Spencer Turrin, Jack Hargreaves and Alex Hill got out to an early lead and did just enough to hold off Romania and Italy, posting a time of 5:42.76, less than half a second in front of the Romanian four.

Men's Quadruple Sculls - Bronze

The men's quadruple sculls team of Jack Cleary, Caleb Antill, Cameron Girdlestone and Luke Letcher took out a bronze medal in the A Final in fantastic finish. They had a time of 5:33.97. The Netherlands took out the race in a new world record. 

Women's Quadruple Sculls - Bronze

Ria Thompson, Rowena Meredith, Harriet Hudson and Caitlin Cronin claimed a bronze medal in the Women’s Quadruple Sculls Final A. They finished in a time of 6:12.08. 

Men's Pair Semifinal - Sam Hardy and Josh Hicks narrowly finished fourth in their semifinal for the Men's Pair, missing out on a spot in the A final. 

Women's Pair Semifinal - The women's pair of Jessica Morrison and Annabelle McIntyre also narrowly finished in fourth in their semifinal, meaning they missed out on a spot in the A final. 

Women's Eight Repechage

The Women's Eight of Genevieve Horton, Molly Goodman, Olympia Aldersey, Katrina Werry, Sarah Hawe, Georgie Rowe, Bronwyn Cox, Giorgia Patten and coxswain James Rook finished fourth in the Repechage and booked their spot in the A Final. 

Men's Eight Repechage

The Men's Eight of Stuart Sim, Nicholas Purnell, Joshua Booth, Angus Dawson, Nick Lavery, Angus Widdicome, Simon Keenan, Timothy Masters and Joseph O'Brien also finished in fourth place to book their place in the A Final. 

Olympic Football Results

The Olyroos were eliminated from the Olympics following a 2-0 loss to Egypt in their Group C clash at Miyagi Stadium on Wednesday night.

Olympic Canoe Slalom Results

Jess Fox

Jess Fox finished second fastest in her first heat for the Women's C1 in a time of 109.96. She had the fastest time going down the course but picked up two penalites.

She would go on to qualify fifth fastest for the semifinals after another solid run that featured two penalties in a time of 110.93.

Lucien Delfour

Lucien Delfour carried Australia's hopes in the Men's K1 and produced a fantastic result in the Heats. 

He finished with a time of 91.12 and qualified third-fastest for the semifinals.

Olympic Tennis Results

Ash Barty and Storm Sanders lost their women's doubles quarterfinal to the Czech Republic, 3-6 6-4 10-7.

Sam Stosur and Ellen Perez bowed out of the women’s doubles with a quarterinal loss to Switzerland's Belinda Bencic and Viktorija Golubic, who progressed to the semifinals with a 6-4 6-4 victory.

Ash Barty and John Peers scored a 6-1 7-6 (7-3) victory over Argentine pair Nadia Podoroska and Horacio Zeballos in the first round of the mixed doubles on Wednesday.

Olympic Boxing Results

  • Caitlin Parker lost in her Women’s Middleweight (69-75kg) Round of 16 clash vs. Athenya Bylon (PAN) 5-0.
  • Paulo Aokuso lost in his Men's Light Heavyweight Round of 16 fight v Spain.
  • Skye Nicolson agonisingly lost her Women's Featherweight (54-57kg) quarterfinal against GBR, 3-2. She won the fight on points but three judges scored the fight in her opponents favour.

Olympic Rugby 7s Results

Australia's Men's 7s lost their 5th-8th placing match to South Africa, 22-19. 

They were then able to comfortably defeat Canada in the 7th-8th match, 26-7 to secure a 7th place finish. 

Olympic Road Cycling Results

Men's Time Trial - BRONZE

Rohan Dennis has produced a fantastic time of 56:08.09 to take home the bronze medal in the Men's Time Trial. 

Fellow Aussie Richie Porte finished in 27th with a time of 1:00:53.67.

Women's Time Trial

Gracie Brown has gone agonisingly close to a bronze medal, finishing in fourth in the Women's Time Trial in a time of 31:22.22. 

Sarah Gigante finished in 11th with a time of 33:01.60.

Olympic Sailing Results

  • Matt Belcher & Will Ryan sit in 1st place after two races in the Men's 470.
  • Jake Lilley sits in 9th place after four races of the Men's Finn. 
  • Will Phillips & Sam Phillips sit in 3rd place after four races of the Men's 49er.
  • Nia Jerwood & Monique de Vries sit in 9th place after two races of the Women's 470 races. 
  • Jason Waterhouse & Lisa Darmanin sit in 3rd place after three races of the Mixed Nacra 17.
  • Tess Lloyd and Jamie Ryan sit in 12th place after six races in the Women's 49er FX.

Olympic Shooting Results

Lateisha Scanlan (5th) and Penny Smith (6th) are both currently inside the top six after three rounds of the Women's Trap Qualification on day one. 

There are two more rounds on Thursday and if they remain in that spot, they will qualify for the final. 

In the Men's Trap Qualification, James Willett (15th) and Tom Grice (24th) sit outside the final places with two rounds to go on Thursday.

Olympic Judo Results

Aoife Coughlan won her Women’s -70kg Elimination Round of 32 match against Kinaua Biribo (KIR). 

Unfortunately, she lost her Round of 16 match later in the day to Germany's Giovanna Scoccimarro.

Olympic Weightlifting Results

Brandon Wakeling finished fourth in the Men's 73kg B group weightlifting. 

His final total of 291kg consisted of 125kg in the Snatch and 166 kg in the Clean and Jerk. 

Olympic Basketball Results

The Boomers held off Italy 86-83 in a physical encounter at Saitama Super Arena. The Aussies are unbeaten through two matches after edging past Nigeria in their tournament opener.

Olympic Beach Volleyball Results

Australian men's pair Christopher McHugh and Damien Schumann suffered a straight-sets loss to Spain's Pablo Herrera-Allepuz and Adrian Gavira-Collado in their preliminary Pool A match.

Mariafe Artacho del Solar and Taliqua Clancy held off Italy pair Marta Menegatti and Viktoria Orsi-Toth in a hard-fought Pool E encounter. The Aussies won the first set 22-20 and the second 21-19 to prevail in straight sets.

Olympic Hockey Results

The Hockeyroos scored a 1-0 victory over Japan in their women’s Pool B match on Wendesday night.

The Kookaburras defeated New Zealand 4-2 in their men’s Pool A clash.
