North Melbourne has reportedly put a sizable offer in front of out-of-contract Port Adelaide player Jared Polec as the Kangaroos continue their mission to bring in established, high-quality talent.

Polec is enjoying a career-best season and is a key factor in the Power’s improvement this year.

However, he is yet to re-sign at Port after playing five years at the club, a period that has at times been rocky and has included being dropped to the SANFL and having coach Ken Hinkley publicly declare he wanted more effort from the ex-Lion.

While the 25-year-old has said only recently he intends to stay with the Power, it’s believed some tempting offers are being put forward from interstate.

“There is a player who just played his 100th game on the weekend, his name is Jared Polec, he’s an Adelaide local,” reporter Sam McClure told SEN Breakfast on Thursday morning.

“He’s in the middle of contract negotiations with Port Adelaide and is keen to stay, but there are a couple of Victorian clubs circling.

“The one well out in front is North Melbourne who have offered a long term deal in excess of $700,000 per season.”

“As we’ve seen before, North Melbourne are not going to die wondering, they want good players and they’re having a crack.”

The Kangaroos have been linked to almost every player coming out of contract in the past two years but are yet to land a big fish. However, their on-field form in 2018 has definitely made Arden Street a more attractive destination than it appeared to be 12 months ago.
