At 0-3 in December shootouts, the Boston Bruins didn't want to go past overtime against the Ottawa Senators. Bobby Ryan made sure they didn't.
Ryan scored 44 seconds into 4-on-4 play to give the Sens a 3-2 victory.

An unlucky day in Boston? Yep, thanks to a deflection goal in the third period. Clinging to a 2-1 lead with less than five minutes left in regulation, the Bruins could only role their eyes when the Sens tied the game.
That set the stage for Ryan, who was camped at the crease when defenseman Erik Karlsson fired at Bruins goalie Tuukka Rask. Ryan was there to swat the puck home while fighting off Zdeno Chara, but it was Karlsson's ability to control a bouncing puck that set up the play.
The tying goal in regulation was credited to Mike Hoffman, but the Senators player was in the right place at the right time. Eric Gryba's shot from the right point clipped Hoffman, sending the puck squirting to the left of Rask and into the net.
Kyle Turris had the other Senators goal. Brad Marchand and Torey Krug scored for the Bruins, who on Sunday face the Carolina Hurricanes in Raleigh.
Speaking to Boston's TV crew after the game, coach Claude Julien said the Bruins again were "not finding a way to win these hockey games, and we're definitely not getting our breaks or making our breaks, so those are things that make it tough for us right now."
