Reggie Wayne’s time with the Colts apparently ended one year earlier than he wanted.

The future Hall of Famer was hoping to sign a one-year deal to finish his career in Indianapolis, according to ESPN.com. The team announced Friday it would not re-sign Wayne.

ESPN's source said the Colts never got around to discussing money in a contract with the six-time Pro Bowler.

"When he first took the field with us in 2001, we knew this day would eventually arrive," Colts owner Jim Irsay said Friday. "That reality is one of the things that makes pro football such a tough business."

Wayne had his worst season since 2003 last year, catching 64 passes for 779 yards and just two touchdowns. For his career, he has 1,070 receptions, 14,345 yards and 80 touchdown catches, all of which rank second in franchise history.
