Weather could impact NFL playoff games; think cold image

The outcome of NFL playoff games this weekend could hinge on which team best weathers the elements.

First up, the AFC game in Foxborough, Mass., where it was 19 degrees at game time for the Baltimore Ravens and New England Patriots.

In Seattle, possible afternoon showers could leave soggy field conditions for Saturday night's game between the Seahawks and Carolina Panthers.

Sunday, it will be frigid in Green Bay when the Packers play host to the Dallas Cowboys. Why not? The teams played an iconic NFL title game now known as the Ice Bowl when it was 15 degrees below zero.

The biggest surprise? It will be downright balmy in Denver, where the Broncos play host to the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday. Saturday's temperatures were more than 20 degrees above normal, and Sunday's forecast is for clouds and a high in the low 40s.

In Green Bay, the Packers will meet the Cowboys in the playoffs for the first time since Dec. 31, 1967. Not only was it bitterly cold, the Ice Bowl was played with an average wind chill of minus-48.

It won't be quite as bad on Sunday, but with a game-time temperature of 20 and wind chill of 14, cold could be a factor. Especially for the Cowboys, who play indoors in Texas and aren't accustomed to playing in a deep freeze.

Cowboys coach Jason Garrett knows the weather, along with Lambeau Field's mystique, could affect his team. He planned to have the Cowboys visit Lambeau on Saturday to give his players a look at the legendary stadium.

"We just wanted to do it for whatever the reason," Garrett told the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. "A lot of guys haven't been to Lambeau, we're driving right past the stadium … get out, move around. It's an early game on Sunday so the idea that guys haven't been to this place before, you're getting there early, we don't want to spend any time looking at the place. 'We did that yesterday, guys. Let's get up, put our cleats on and let's go play football.' "

Forecasts and television times for all four games:
