Tony Romo couldn't even wait till the regular season before suffering his first injury. The much-maligned Dallas quarterback has reportedly suffered a broken bone in his back, a compression fracture of his L1 vertebra.

The news comes after Romo suffered a rough hit from behind in the third play of the Cowboys' preseason game against the Seahawks on Thursday. The injury is apparently not related to any of his prior injuries, and ESPN reports the injury will not require surgery .

Unfortunately for the Cowboys, there is no set timetable for when Romo will be able to return; sources have told ProFootball Talk that it could be as many as 6-10 weeks before he returns.

On the bright side, fourth-round pick Dak Prescott has played exceptionally well at quarterback for a rookie, albeit it in preseason action, and Ezekiel Elliott played lights-out in his first action of the season. But until Romo can take the field, Dallas will have a pretty inexperienced backfield leading the offense.
