Tom Brady's 'Tompa Bay' trademark opens the floodgates for jokes on Twitter image

A couple weeks after Tom Brady left the Patriots for the Buccaneers in NFL free agency, the quarterback's company reportedly filed for two trademarks. According to trademark attorney Josh Gerben, this indicates "Brady intends to sell clothing, headwear and footwear using the trademarks."

One of the trademark filings, for "Tampa Brady," is fine. The other, for "Tompa Bay," was met with a virtual burst of laughter.

"Tompa Bay" sounds ridiculous, but part of the reason Brady filed to trademark the phrase could be the fact that "Tompa Bay" merchandise is already being produced. "The Dan Patrick Show," for example, has been selling a "Tompa Bay" T-shirt on its merchandise site for weeks.

"We were doing mock headlines of Brady going (to Tampa Bay)," Patrick explained to The Action Network's Darren Rovell on Friday. "We joked that it was so easy. We threw out 'Tompa Bay' right away, and then 'Tampa Brady,' and then I go, 'let's make T-shirts.'"

But the ridiculousness that is "Tompa Bay" didn't reach the masses until Friday, when news broke of Brady's trademarks and when "Tompa Bay" began trending on Twitter.

It was trending, of course, because everybody was cracking jokes. Below are some of the best.
