Todd Gurley’s knee issue was worse than the Rams first thought, C.J. Anderson revealed Tuesday.
The 24-year-old running back missed the final two games of the regular season with what the team called “knee inflammation.” But, Anderson — who signed with the Rams in mid-December — said the injury was more severe during an appearance on "Undisputed."
"He was more hurt than what we thought," Anderson said. "The injury was a little bit more than what everybody in the building thought, including himself."
Gurley said he was healthy and returned for the Rams’ playoff run. But, he combined for just 14 rush attempts and 45 yards in the NFC championship and the Super Bowl. Meanwhile, Anderson received 23 total carries in those games.
"When we came in, we knew both of us were going to be used," Anderson said. "Now, I don't think it was a hot-hand thing because it was more like — it was up front. I was receptive to tell like, 'If Todd wants to go he wants to go.' And I was OK with that.”
Gurley finished the regular season with 1,251 rushing yards and 17 touchdowns in 14 games.
