Falcons running back Steven Jackson is not expected to be back in Atlanta next season, according to ESPN.

When addressing the media Tuesday, new offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan wouldn't say directly that Jackson would be cut next season, but did state that he "loved" running back Devonta Freeman when evaluating him as an NFL prospect last year.

As a rookie last season, Freeman averaged 3.8 yards per carry and caught 30 passes for 225 yards and a touchdown.

Jackson, 31, rushed for 707 yards on 3.7 yards per carry and is owed $3.75 million in 2015. The former Oregon State standout has been injury-prone lately, missing five games the last two seasons with lower leg issues.
