The Seahawks have released their former top draft pick Malik McDowell.

According to a report from the NFL Network, which cites unidentified league sources, Seattle will let go of the defensive tackle who will be placed on waivers and try to find a team elsewhere.

McDowell was selected in the second round (35th overall) of the 2017 draft, but has yet to see the gridiron after he sustained injuries in an ATV accident before training camp in 2017.

A year later he was waived by the Seahawks with a non-football injury designation and then placed on the reserve/non-football injury list the next day.

The details of McDowell's injuries were never revealed, but they seemed severe enough for Seattle to never medically clear him.

McDowell entered the league after playing in all 13 of Michigan State's games as a true freshman in 2014. He tallied 15 tackles and 1 1/2 sacks. During his sophomore season, McDowell was named an All-American by Fox Sports.
