Seahawks vs. Jets: Picks, predictions for Sunday's game image

Run for your life, Russell Wilson.

Oh, wait ... he can't.

WEEK 4 PICKS: Straight up | Against the spread

The Seahawks quarterback, his bum ankle/knee and his developing offensive line will be put to the test Sunday against a Jets defense foaming at the mouth and desperate for a win. New York, of course, has a key offensive injury of its own with which to deal. Wide receiver Brandon Marshall might not be able to help Ryan Fitzpatrick avoid another disaster game.

The Jets quarterback, despite his recent struggles, has been great at home and against NFC opponents of late. But his three-game winning streak vs. NFC foes does not include a victory against this Seahawks defense, which still ranks among the league's best.

Sporting News NFL writers David Steele and Vinnie Iyer both like Seattle to set New York further back in the AFC. Here's why.

Seahawks-Jets picks

STEELE: Seahawks, 19-17 — No one should expect Ryan Fitzpatrick to throw a bushel of interceptions every week, but that six-pick disaster last week was not the one to have going into a game against the Seahawks. Defense hasn’t really been their problem. Scoring has. Russell Wilson, healthy or not, will have his hands full against the Jets defense, which doesn’t need Fitzpatrick to be the equalizer for the other team again.

IYER: Seahawks, 23-10 — Wilson is hurting again, this time with a sprained MCL. He plans to play through it, but he’ll need to get through it without much use of his legs. This is set up to be an ugly defensive game, because both teams won’t be able to run the ball at all. The difference is Seattle is much better against the pass with its pressure, and with Richard Sherman and friends shutting up the back end. Even with his good wideouts, there’s no reason to believe Fitzpatrick can outduel Wilson here.
