Seahawks vs. Falcons: Predictions, odds, numbers that matter image

Show us somebody who before the season expected the Falcons to present the Seahawks one of the toughest matchups on their 2016 schedule, and we'll show you a liar.

That's the case as Atlanta heads to Seattle on Sunday for its third consecutive game against a presumed Super Bowl contender. Down went Carolina in Week 4. Defending champion Denver fell in Week 5. Don't think it's time to take the Falcons seriously yet?

WEEK 6 PICKS: Straight up | Against the spread

We do. But Vegas, which initially gave Atlanta 6.5 points on the road in Week 6, apparently does not.

The Falcons have had a bumpy road back to NFC supremacy since the last time they played the Seahawks, a 33-10 win at home in November of 2013 to avenge the divisional playoff loss in the same building 10 months prior. Seattle, of course, hasn't had such trouble.

As for this round, SN NFL writers David Steele and Vinnie Iyer both like the blue birds over the red birds.

Seahawks-Falcons predictions

STEELE: Seahawks, 23-21 — If the Falcons keep hearing “let’s wait and see’’ about their 4-1 record and their back-to-back defeats of last year’s Super Bowl teams, they only have themselves to blame after they fell apart after last year’s 5-0 start. For now, their offense is unstoppable, even by the Broncos, but the Seahawks’ defense is still a stiff test. Timely bye week for the Seahawks with Russell Wilson hurting.

IYER: Seahawks, 34-16 — Dan Quinn has borrowed from Seattle’s speed, attitude, toughness and physicality to install it into Atlanta’s makeup. That’s been key to the Falcons’ 4-1 start, setting them up to actually win the NFC South this season. But they run into the NFC West juggernaut coming off a bye, where Russell Wilson and friends will be itching to light up somebody. It’s hard to see Matt Ryan using his talented backs purely again to match that firepower, with the Seahawks taking away almost everything else.
