Chip Kelly says Eagles working on extension with Sam Bradford image

Chip Kelly is confident that Sam Bradford will make a long-term commitment to Philadelphia.

The Eagles coach disclosed during the NFL Draft that the team has had discussions with the quarterback's agent, Tom Condon, about a contract extension, NJ.com reported Thursday.

Kelly, who acquired Bradford from the Rams in March in exchange for quarterback Nick Foles and several draft picks, added that the rumors of his willingness to trade Bradford for Marcus Mariota were entirely false. Discussions of a possible swap have been stirring for quite some time but heated up after the Titans selected the Oregon quarterback as the No. 2 pick.

An extension for Bradford will lower his salary cap number and secure a future with the Eagles as long as he is healthy. The 2008 Heisman Trophy winner has been derailed by injuries in the past, missing time in 2011 with a shoulder injury and suffering season-ending ACL injuries each of the last two seasons.

Bradford, 27, is in the final year of his rookie contract and is due $12.9 million this season.
