Russell Wilson's sprained ankle 'significant,' Week 2 status in question, report says image

Russell Wilson, who twisted his right ankle in the third quarter Sunday on a sack by Ndamukong Suh, still rallied the Seahawks to a 12-10 victory over the Dolphins.

But while Wilson downplayed the injury after the game, even joking about it, the NFL Network's Ian Rapoport said Monday a source indicated the injury is "significant" and puts his availability for Seattle's game in Los Angeles next week into question.

MARVEZ: What stood out in Week 1

Suh inadvertently hit the back of Wilson's foot on the sack, causing the quarterback's foot and ankle to twist awkwardly. Wilson limped through the rest of the possession before getting his foot and ankle taped on the sidelines.

Coach Pete Carroll told the Seattle Times afterward the team was ready to stick its backup QB, untested rookie Trevone Boykin, in for Wilson, but "Russell jumped back out."

Wilson played well enough on the injured ankle to rally the Seahawks to the win with a touchdown pass to Doug Baldwin in the final minute.

"He's a tough dude," Baldwin said, via the Times. "It's not just his mental fortitude, but also his physical prowess and what he brings to the table in every facet. I told him, 'You need to suck it up,' and he said ... well, I can't repeat what he said. But he let me know it wasn't going to affect his play. Obviously, he showed that."

Wilson even joked about his twisted ankle after the game.

"I was telling some of the coaches and some of the trainers that when I'm 43, 44, 45 years old and I'm still playing, that's probably what I'll look like out there," Wilson said.

NFL.com reported the Seahawks might look to sign a veteran quarterback this week, whether Wilson can play or not.
