Robert Griffin III injury update: Ravens quarterback fractures thumb image

Robert Griffin III will be missing the next month or so of camp.

The Ravens quarterback said he fractured his thumb Saturday. He did not disclose how serious the injury was, saying it was up to the team to announce it, but Griffin did have an X-ray to confirm the injury.

He's likely to miss the next four to eight weeks, according to a report from ESPN.

However, the team did say they expect him to be OK by the start of the regular season, which lands right in the middle of that timeline.

Griffin took to Twitter later that day.

"Everything you have been through will make you stronger," he wrote.

Baltimore has not released any information about Griffin's injury.

His fellow signal-callers seemed to be concerned, and coach John Harbaugh asked "everyone (to) say a prayer."

Griffin spent three seasons with the Redskins after being drafted second overall in 2012, but lost the starting job to Kirk Cousins after suffering numerous injuries. He ended up playing with the Browns for a season and eventually landed with the Ravens after sitting out 2017.

He went 2 of 6 for 21 yards for Baltimore last year.

Griffin has been putting in the work this offseason to get up to speed with the Ravens' system.

"I've got to make sure I understand the offense, forward and backward," Griffin said in June. "The offense will look different. I think we'll shock some people with what we're going to do. If we need to run it 60 times, we can do it. But if we need to throw it 30 to 40 times, we can also do it. I think that's what we're working on, to make sure we have those capabilities."
