Redskins' Reuben Foster fined by NFL, does not face suspension image

Reuben Foster will not be suspended to start the 2019-20 season, the NFL announced Friday.

The Redskins pass rusher will be fined two game checks to kick off the year, according to a statement the league released.

Foster was arrested on a domestic-violence battery charge in November and released by the 49ers last season. But the NFL concluded after an investigation into the 2018 incident, the evidence did not prove Foster violated the NFL's personal conduct policy.

The 25-year-old linebacker is taking some blame though, and has agreed to complete an accountability plan to prevent the chances of future misconduct. He has been advised that "more substantial" discipline could be involved if he steps out of line moving forward.

"I am grateful to the Washington Redskins and the NFL for giving me this second chance," Foster said in a statement, via the Redskins website. "I appreciate the support I have received from the league, my team, and my union to help me succeed. I want to thank commissioner Goodell for the time that he has spent with me and for his understanding of me as a person. I accept the NFL’s decision and want to say that I am truly sorry for my past actions and the people who may have been hurt by them. Going forward, I will follow the plan outlined for me and work hard to earn back the trust of my teammates, the NFL, NFL fans, and the community. I know that my success is all up to me, and I am committed to not letting you down."

Foster recorded 29 tackles in six games before San Francisco passed him on to Washington.

The league has moved him from the commissioner exempt list to the active roster. He may fully participate in all team activities.
