Sean McVay fielded a number of questions Tuesday after making roster moves including the addition of Eric Weddle and departure of Lamarcus Joyner and Rodger Saffold.
McVay also addressed the status of star running back Todd Gurley.
Both McVay and Gurley insisted he was 100-percent healthy for the postseason despite missing the Rams' final two regular season games with knee inflammation. But, Gurley didn't have many touches during the NFC championship game and caused many to speculate whether he fully recovered from his injury.
According to a report for The Athletic, which cited unidentified sources, Gurley is dealing with arthritis in his knee. However, McVay isn't certain of that diagnosis.
McVay, who will be entering his third season at the helm for Los Angeles, would rather categorize the injury as "wear and tear."
“I don’t know exactly, medically, when you categorize what arthritis is, but I’ve never seen a guy on the medical report or on the injury report with that,” McVay said, via the Los Angeles Times. “And I think If you just said, ‘Is there a wear and tear? Was there a pounding that that knee took?’ Absolutely. … He’s the only one that can really talk specifically about how his body feels.”
McVay added the Rams will have “to let it play itself out,” referring to Gurley's status.
Gurley saw a limited role in the Super Bowl against the Patriots and received just 11 touches.
McVay explained after the 13-3 loss the plan was to split carries between Gurley and C.J. Anderson, rather than placing any blame on Gurley's possibly injured knee.
The three-time Pro Bowl player finished the 2018 season with 1,251 rushing yards and 17 touchdowns.
Gurley, 24, became the highest-paid running back in the NFL after signing a four-year, $60 million contract extension with the Rams in April 2018.
