Former NFL running backs LaDainian Tomlinson, Roger Craig, Edgerrin James and Terrell Davis are a little closer to football immortality.
They are among the 26 semifinalists for the Pro Football Hall of Fame 2017 class. The group was revealed Wednesday after the Hall cut its list of 94 nominees.
Tomlinson headlines the list of first-year eligible semifinalists, along with former defensive back Brian Dawkins, who spent 13 of his 16 NFL seasons with the Eagles and was a nine-time Pro Bowler.
Tomlinson is the Chargers' all-time leading rusher and ranks fifth on the NFL's all-time list with 13,684 yards.

Davis is a semifinalist for the 11th time, the most of any of the semifinalists.
The list of semifinalists will be trimmed to 15 finalists in early January. The finalists will join senior finalist Kenny Easley and 2017 contributor finalists Jerry Jones and Paul Tagliabue when the 48-member Hall of Fame selection committee meets in Houston to vote on the eve of Super Bowl LI.
