Peyton Manning may just be in the running for the U.S. Senate.

With the announcement that Sen. Bob Corker of Tennessee will not seek re-election, the speculation has begun and the former Vols, Colts and Broncos quarterback is at the center of the rumors.

Manning has been brought up as a possibility for political seats in the past as the Tennessean suggested in March he may be in line for Sen. Lamar Alexander's seat, but the former Heisman runner-up has not said he will run for office despite making an appearance at a notable Republican event.

Manning did speak at the congressional Republican leaders' winter retreat in Philadelphia in January so he has that in his background, but as of yet Manning has not alluded to the fact that he will run for a senate seat.

However, it's hardly unprecedented for former professional athletes to get involved in politics or run for Congress. In fact, former Tennessee QB Heath Shuler represented North Carolina in the U.S. House from 2007-13.
