The Blitz Read: Chiefs' Eric Berry kicks off NFL's season of giving in heartfelt homecoming image

NFL quarterbacks have been in a giving mood all season. That trend continued Sunday with 24 interceptions and five fumbles committed by signal callers.

The biggest interception of the day was a "pick-two" by Kansas City's Eric Berry.

The Chiefs safety foiled a two-point conversion attempt by returning a Matt Ryan pass 100 yards to secure a 29-28 win over Atlanta. The Falcons had just taken a 28-27 lead on a 5-yard pass to Aldrick Robinson with 4:32 remaining. But trying to increase that lead to three points backfired as Berry stepped in front of the pass and went the distance.

Berry's return was his second interception for a score on the day. He had a 37-yard pick-six in the second quarter to give the Chiefs a 20-13 lead.

The Atlanta native then handed the ball to his mother.

Miami's Ryan Tannehill, Philadelphia's Carson Wentz and New Orleans' Drew Brees all threw three interceptions on Sunday. Jacksonville's Blake Bortles also turned the ball over three times with two interceptions and a lost fumble in Sunday's 20-10 loss to Denver.

Injury report

Houston Texans receiver Braxton Miller injured his right shoulder in the first half of Sunday's 21-13 loss to the Green Bay Packers and did not return. The Texans also lost cornerback Johnathan Joseph in the fourth quarter with a rib injury.

Detroit Lions running back Dwayne Washington injured his ankle and did not return to Detroit's 28-13 win over the Saints.

The New England Patriots lost wide receiver Danny Amendola with an ankle injury against his former team. Amendola watched the second half of Sunday's 26-10 win over the Los Angeles Rams on crutches and with his right foot in a walking boot.

Giants defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul injured his groin late in the first half of New York's 24-14 loss in Pittsburgh. The Giants also lost cornerback Coty Sensabaugh, who was taken to a local hospital because of a rib injury.

The Falcons lost tackle Jake Matthews in the second quarter with a knee injury.

Eagles wideout Dorial Green-Beckham went into the locker room for X-rays on his ribs and did not return to the 32-14 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals.

Seahawks safety Earl Thomas reportedly suffered a broken left leg in the first half of a 40-7 win over the Panthers. "A lot is running through my mind, including retirement," he tweeted from the locker room after he was carted off the field.

By the numbers

New England's 26-10 win over the Rams was the 201st in the career of Patriots quarterback Tom Brady, who moved past Peyton Manning for most wins all-time.

The Rams' loss was the 164th defeat of Jeff Fisher, who is one loss shy of tying Dan Reeves for the most all-time. Reeves won 190 games with the Broncos, Giants and Falcons with a winning percentage of .535. He coached in four Super Bowls, but lost each. Fisher is 173-164-1 (.512) with the Rams and Titans franchises, losing Super Bowl XXXIV to the Rams following the 1999 season. Fisher has just six winning seasons in 22 years and none since 2008 while still with the Titans.

The Lions held Saints quarterback Drew Brees without a touchdown pass in Sunday's 26-10 win. That snapped an NFL-record streak of 60 consecutive home games with a TD pass.

The Cardinals receiver continues to move his way up the NFL's all-time receptions list. Fitzgerald caught 10 passes for 78 yards in Sunday's 31-23 win over the Washington Redskins and is now third all-time with 1,106 catches. He began the day fifth, but moved past Hall of Famers Cris Carter (1,101) and Tim Brown (1,102) on Sunday.

Fitzgerald now has 14,246 receiving yards and passed Andre Johnson for 10th place on the all-time list.

Highlights

The Lions were able to maintain control in the NFC North thanks to the play of Matthew Stafford and Golden Tate, who connected for a 66-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter.

Tom Brady and Julian Edelman could pretty much do no wrong against the hapless Rams. Brady threw for 269 yards in the 26-10 win while Edelman caught eight passes for 101 yards, including a leaping 32-yard completion in the third quarter.

Randall Cobb made a snow angel after catching a 9-yard touchdown pass from a scrambling Aaron Rodgers to get the Packers on the board in their 21-13 win over the Texans.

Ravens safety Lardarius Webb had one of three interceptions in Baltimore's 38-6 win over the Miami Dolphins.

The Denver defense led the way for rookie quarterback Paxton Lynch to get his first win. Broncos cornerback Bradley Roby returned a Blake Bortles pass 51 yards for a touchdown in the 20-10 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars.

The Chiefs also got a special teams touchdown on Sunday, with Albert Wilson's 55-yard run on a fake punt.

The Oakland Raiders ralled from a 24-9 deficit against the Buffalo Bills and took the lead on a 37-yard touchdown pass from Derek Carr to Amari Cooper. The Raiders never looked back in a 38-24 win.

The Buccaneers also came from behind for a 28-21 win over the Chargers. The game-winner was a 12-yard pass from Jameis Winston to tight end Cameron Brate.

Seahawks receiver Tyler Lockett took off like a rocket for a 75-yard touchdown run to start the second half, and the rout was on.

Quotables

"I shed a few tears before the game. I shed a few during the game and I shed a few after," Berry said of playing a regular-season game in Atlanta for the first time. "I think I held it together pretty good, but a lot of emotions, so I just tried to contain them and let them show through my play."

"Yes, I got you. You can just hold your horses. I'll be quick," Ravens safety Eric Weddle, who arrived at the podium ahead of coach John Harbaugh.
