Packers QB depth chart: Jordan Love knee injury could thrust Malik Willis, Sean Clifford into spotlight image

The Packers fell to 0-1 with a Week 1 loss to the Eagles in Brazil. To make matters worse, Green Bay lost its QB1 in the process.

As the Packers looked to complete a game-winning drive late in the fourth quarter, franchise quarterback Jordan Love went down with an apparent knee injury and could not finish the game. Love was in evident pain and was hobbled as he walked off the field with the assistance of Green Bay's training staff.

Initial testing has shown that Love's ACL is intact, and it was later revealed that he has suffered a sprained MCL in his left knee. Love is expected to miss three-to-six weeks with his injury, meaning Green Bay will face an uphill battle to replace the production of its starting QB.

Here is a look at the Packers depth chart at QB and who could be called upon to step up in Love's absence.

Starter: Jordan Love

Green Bay handed Love the keys to the franchise and doubled down on its commitment with a four-year $220 million contract extension in the offseason. Love, who will turn 26 in November, was the Packers' first-round selection in the 2020 draft and took over as the franchise's starting QB after the departure of Aaron Rodgers in 2023.

In his first full season as a starter, Love led Green Bay to a 9-8 record, throwing for 4,159 yards, 32 touchdowns and just 11 interceptions. In the postseason, Love led the Packers to an impressive road win over the Cowboys in the Wild Card round before falling to eventual NFC Champion San Francisco in the Divisional round.

While he struggled to find his groove at times during the season opener, Love was 17-of-34 for 260 yards, throwing two touchdowns and one pick.

As a starter Love has shown enough for the Packers to reaffirm their commitment for the present and future and his status as one of the up-and-coming QB talents in the NFL earned lofty expectations for Green Bay in 2024.

Backup: Malik Willis

Green Bay motioned to acquire Willis via trade ahead of Week 1 of the 2024 season.

Willis, 25, was selected by Tenessee in the third round of the 2022 NFL Draft. The perceived heir-apparent to the Titans' starting job, things did not quite work out for Willis, resulting in a change of scenery as the 2024 preseason ended.

A dynamic QB, Willis is 1-2 in his three NFL starts, all of which came during his rookie season with the Titans. Last year, Willis only appeared in three games and attempted five passes.

Green Bay inserted Willis for the final two plays of its Week 1 loss to Philadelphia. Willis' first pass attempt was incomplete and he was sacked on the game's final play.

Monday, Packers head coach Matt LaFleur told reporters that Willis would be the team's starter if Love is not cleared. Given Love's timetable to return, Willis could be the presumed starter for at least Green Bay's next three games.

Practice squad: Sean Clifford

Despite this being his second NFL season, Clifford is the oldest player in Green Bay's QB room.

Clifford, 26, spent six seasons at Penn State, redshirting as a freshman and taking advantage of the extra year of eligibility granted to players due to the COVID-19 pandemic.  Clifford was a fifth-round pick in the 2023 NFL Draft and appeared in two games with the Packers as a rookie in 2023.

During the 2023 preseason, Clifford went 22-of-43 for 207 yards, throwing one touchdown and one interception.
