Ron Wolf was a Hall of Fame general manager for the Packers. The 49ers are hoping the apple didn't fall far from the tree.

The Niners are set to interview Eliot Wolf, Ron's son, this week for their vacant general manager position, according to multiple reports.

Eliot Wolf was promoted to Green Bay's director of football operations last March after being the team's director of player personnel for a year. He was hired by the Packers in 2004 as a pro personnel assistant. He was then promoted to assistant director of pro personnel in 2008 and again to assistant director of player personnel in 2011.

The 49ers fired general manager Trent Baalke and coach Chip Kelly on Sunday. The interview with Wolf will take place on Thursday, according to ESPN. The Niners will also interview Green Bay's director of college scouting Brian Gutekunst, according to ESPN.

The Packers would not give teams permission to interview Wolf last year. There is also the idea that the younger Wolf could take his father's old job in Green Bay once current Packers GM Ted Thompson decides to step aside, which could be following this season.

The Packers won the NFC North and will play the Giants on Sunday in the first round of the NFC playoffs.
