The former NFL star has a parole hearing Thursday in Nevada, and if he is granted release, he will be a free man Oct. 1.
A friend says Simpson seemed “excited’’ when they spoke on the phone last week, and that he was "very positive."
“He says, ‘Tell them we’ll be playing golf again soon,’" Tom Scotto told USA Today Sports.
“He just says, ‘We’ll be together again, my life will go back to normal, ’" Scotto added. “He’s very positive. He’s always been positive."
Simpson, 70, was convicted of armed robbery in 2008 after he tried to rob two sports memorabilia agents. He was sentenced to a minimum of nine years in prison, with the maximum sentence being 33 years.
According to Scotto, Simpson wants to move back to Florida, live with Scotto for a bit, save up for a house and hit the golf course with his buddies — like old times.
Another option is for Simpson to move in with his sister until he can get back on his feet.
“He’ll be OK," Scotto said. "He's not going to be poor. He’ll survive. He’ll be able to get his own place. He just needs to adjust. Ten years is a long time to be away."
