Sean Lee responded to Dez Bryant's "snake" jibe by saying his former Dallas Cowboys team-mate "needs to look at himself and hold himself accountable".

Bryant was released by the Cowboys in April and implied on Twitter that Lee and Cowboys offensive lineman Travis Frederick had input on Dallas' decision.

The wide receiver started his lengthy outburst by responding to a tweet containing an interview with Cowboys executive vice president and director of player personnel Stephen Jones, who appeared to suggest the receiver had hindered quarterback Dak Prescott's progress last year.

He posted: "Here we go with that scapegoat s***.. i charged everything to the game and went the other way.. y'all know what the real problem is .. don't put it on me with that b*******.. garbage a** play calling.. Everybody lined up in the same spot for 17 weeks."

Bryant then responded to a tweet from a follower who described Jones as "clueless".

"He's not clueless.. Jerry [Jones, the Cowboys owner] was the only one who was clueless.. s*** was a planned to get me out ask Travis and my brother snake Lee I mean Sean Lee," he replied.

But Lee hit back at Bryant by saying he should take more responsibility.

Lee said: "You know, to be honest, we did butt heads, because I wanted Dez to be more accountable to this team and his team-mates.

"To be honest with you, a lot of the team felt that way. I think he needs to look at himself and hold himself accountable.

"First thing - to say that I can get anybody off the team and have any input on a roster is absurd. The second thing [is] I love Dez, and I want the best for him."

Stephen Jones said after practice on Friday: "No one knows more about what I think of Dez than me, and it certainly wasn't intended to be negative. I think the world of Dez."
