Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski has missed four consecutive games for the Patriots while battling a slew of injuries, and reports indicate he's had to deal with mental problems alongside his ankle and back injuries.

According to NFL Network, a few close friends of Gronkowski had to help the 29-year-old get his mind back in the right place.

"Look, Gronk a couple weeks ago clearly wasn't feeling himself," reporter Mike Giardi said Wednesday on the NFL Network (via 247Sports). "He had a press conference here that was very odd, low tempo, low energy from him. He was a little sulky after the fact. And he got talked to by some people close to him and sort of [said], 'Hey, stop feeling sorry for yourself, refocus on getting better, refocus on being a dominating player.'"

Giardi also said Gronkowski was close to playing this past week against the Titans, when the Patriots were routed in a 34-10 upset. While he probably could have taken the field, the team decided it was best for their star tight end to get a full month of rest before he returns.

Gronkowski has recorded 29 receptions for 448 yards and a touchdown through the seven games he has played this season, which is down significantly from past seasons for the five-time Pro Bowler and two-time Super Bowl champion.

The Patriots have a bye this week, so Gronkowski could have a chance to return against the Jets on Nov. 25.
