The New York Jets are interested in Baylor coach Matt Rhule for their head coaching vacancy, ESPN reported Friday.

The Jets are looking to replace Todd Bowles, who was fired after New York (4-12) finished last in the AFC East for the third straight year. Bowles was 24-40 in four seasons as Jets coach.

The Bears were 7-6 in Rhule's second season as coach. They were 1-11 last season. Rhule took over at Baylor after four seasons at Temple. He was 2-10 in his first season at Temple, 6-6 in his second season, then produced consecutive 10-win seasons before moving on. Temple has had only three 10-win seasons in its history.

Rhule, 43, is no stranger to New York. He was born there and served as the Giants' offensive line coach in 2012.

It is not known if the Jets would be interviewing Rhule while team officials are in Texas this weekend for a scheduled interview with Cowboys defensive backs coach Kris Richard, ESPN reported.
