Ohio State Buckeyes quarterback Dwayne Haskins has announced his decision to skip his final two seasons of eligibility and declare for the 2019 NFL Draft.

At six foot, three inches and 220 pounds, redshirt sophomore Haskins is expected to be the first quarterback taken in the draft after Justin Herbert decided to return to the Oregon Ducks.

He said in a statement posted on social media: "As a young kid, I had dreams of playing at The Ohio State since the age of 10 years old. God has blessed me with an opportunity to achieve another dream. The NFL.

"After many thoughts and prayers with family and close friends, I have decided to declare for the 2019 NFL draft.

"To my coaches, team-mates and friends that I've made at this prestigious university, THANK YOU!"

Haskins capped his tremendous campaign with a Rose Bowl victory over the Washington Huskies on New Year's Day, in which he passed for 251 yards and three touchdowns.

He ended the season with 4,831 yards passing and 50 touchdowns - both Big Ten records for a single season - to go with his eight interceptions in 14 starts.

Haskins, who was given a first-round grade from the NFL's draft advisory board, finished third in voting for the Heisman Trophy behind quarterbacks Kyler Murray of the Oklahoma Sooners and Tua Tagovailoa of the Alabama Crimson Tide.

Teams in the top half of the draft that could look to go for a quarterback include the Oakland Raiders (No. 4), Tampa Bay Buccaneers (No. 5), New York Giants (No. 6), Jacksonville Jaguars (No. 7), Denver Broncos (No. 9), Cincinnati Bengals (No. 11), Miami Dolphins (No. 13) and Washington Redskins (No. 15).
