The 40-yard dash is the premier event of the NFL Combine, whether fair or not.
How fast a player can run 40 yards is just one small part of the pre-draft evaluation process, with teams putting more emphasis on college tape along with interviews and perhaps even some other drills. But speed still matters, and everyone loves speed.
A year after Texas' Xavier Worthy set a new NFL Combine record with a 4.21-second 40-yard dash, history doesn't appear likely this time around — but it doesn't take a record-breaking run to wow NFL scouts, particularly if a prospect can blend size and speed.

- Thursday: Defensive linemen, linebackers
- Friday: Defensive backs, tight ends
- Saturday: Quarterbacks, wide receivers, running backs
- Sunday: Offensive linemen
The on-field drills portion of the NFL Combine will start Thursday and run through Sunday, with wide receivers and running backs taking the field on Saturday. The combine events will begin at 3 p.m. ET on Thursday and Friday, and at 1 p.m. ET on both Saturday and Sunday.
