NFL Combine 2018: Results, highlights from draft prospect workouts image

Results from the 2018 NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis will not make or break prospects for the 2018 NFL Draft, barring injury. We all know behind-the-scenes interviews and physicals are the most important aspects of the annual scouting event. Multiple star NFL players, including Antonio Brown, have overcome bad Combine performances.

But a quick 40-yard dash, an impressive amount of bench press reps and a strong vertical jump can't hurt.

Quarterbacks were the focus entering this year's Combine, perhaps more so than usual. USC's Sam Darnold decided not to throw at the Combine, instead saving his arm for his Pro Day later in the month. Some teams reportedly wanted Louisville's Lamar Jackson, one of the most prolific quarterbacks in college football history, to work out as a wide receiver, but he did not. Nobody seems to agree on projections for Wyoming's Josh Allen, UCLA's Josh Rosen or Oklahoma's Baker Mayfield.

The Combine will do nothing to settle draft-related debates. Alas, the 2018 Underwear Olympics are complete. SN provided live updates and results from Indianapolis as the Combine progressed. Here's how it went down.

NFL Combine: Results

— To close the Combine, NFL Network host Rich Eisen ran his annual #RunRichRun 40-yard dash. This year's result was a solid.

— Below are the best 40-yard dash times for safeties:

— Ohio State cornerback Denzel Ward did not participate in position drills due to a tweaked ankle.

— Patriots coach Bill Belichick spent some time in the broadcast booth with NFL Network's crew.

— Seven defensive backs recorded sub-4.4 40-yard dash times. That's a lot of speed.

— Below are some notable official 40-yard dash times for linebackers:

— UCF linebacker Shaquem Griffin, who wowed with his 20 bench press reps Saturday, recorded a blazing 4.38 40-yard dash on Sunday. SN's Alex Marvez profiled the one-handed linebacker prospect. He already has gained the respect of NFL players, current and former.

— Below are the top official 40 times for defensive linemen:

— Based in part on the freakish numbers he posted at the Combine, Alabama's Da'Ron Payne could be the first defensive tackle drafted in April, SN's Vinnie Iyer writes.

— N.C. State pass-rusher Bradley Chubb, ranked by SN as the No. 1 defensive end in the 2018 NFL Draft, ran an impressive 4.65 40-yard dash.

— UCF linebacker Shaquem Griffin showed off on the bench press while wearing a prosthetic arm.

— Wyoming's Josh Allen had one of the best performances of the Combine, ranking near the top in a lot of measurements as a QB.

Lamar Jackson admitted he opted out of the 40-yard dash due to the talk of him playing WR. SN's Vinnie Iyer thinks the decision might end up working in the QB's favor.

Josh Allen threw the ball nearly 70 yards in the air, showing off his deep arm.

— Being in the same company as Odell Beckham Jr. and Golden Tate is a good thing for Christian Kirk.

Lamar Jackson declined not to participate in the 40-yard dash, but he did take part in throwing drills.

— It's not a record-breaking time, but LSU's DJ Chark recorded a 4.34 40-yard dash.

— NFL research provided some perspective on Penn State running back Saquon Barkley's crazy-good Combine numbers.

— Some notable official 40-yard dash times for running backs:

— USC running back Ronald Jones tweaked a hamstring during his first 40-yard dash run. He did not make a second run.

— Alabama running back Bo Scarbrough broke the Combine record (since 2006) for a broad jump from a running back — 11'4". He later ran a 4.52 40-yard dash.

— Penn State running back Saquon Barkley recorded a 41-inch vertical. He later ran a 4.4 40-yard dash. Keep in mind he's 233 pounds.

— UCLA offensive tackle Kolton Miller set a broad jump record (10'1") for an offensive lineman. Miller is among the top 2018 tackle prospects on SN's big board.

— Some NFL teams reportedly want Louisville quarterback Lamar Jackson to work out with wide receivers at the Combine.

— Ohio State center Billy Price reportedly suffered a torn pec on the third rep of his bench press Thursday. Price is considered one of if not the best center prospect in the 2018 NFL Draft.
