Mike McCarthy will not coach in 2019.

McCarthy told NFL Network he has decided to sit out the upcoming season after the Jets hired Adam Gase. McCarthy said he was planning to spend time with his family and will look to return to the sidelines in 2020.

While he was a candidate for various other coaching positions, he was only interested in the Jets' job, according to an earlier ESPN report.

McCarthy, who took over the Packers in 2006, was fired by the team in early December after it got off to a 4-7-1 start. He finished his time in Green Bay with a 125-77-2 record and led it to a Super Bowl win in 2011.

Green Bay hired former Titans offensive coordinator Matt LaFleur to replace McCarthy earlier this week.
