The Lions don’t have a head coach yet, but they are set to add three new assistants to what will soon be Matt Patricia’s staff.

A source told Sporting News that George Godsey (quarterbacks), Jeff Davidson (offensive line) and Brian Stewart (defensive backs) are headed to the Lions.

Godsey spent 2017 as a Lions defensive assistant handling special projects after serving the previous three years at Houston as its quarterbacks coach (2014) and offensive coordinator (2015-16). Godsey and Patricia both worked on New England’s coaching staff from 2011-13.

Davidson is now on his fourth different team in the past four seasons after being fired by Denver earlier this month. Davidson was New England’s offensive line and tight ends coach from 2002-04; the 2004 season was Patricia’s first on New England’s staff.

Stewart didn’t work with Patricia in New England, but the two were on the same Syracuse football staff in 2001. Stewart was an NFL assistant coach from 2002-09, including a two-year stint as Cowboys defensive coordinator (2007-08), before returning to the college ranks. Stewart was recently named Rice University’s defensive coordinator.

Patricia is set to become Detroit’s head coach after completing his duties as New England’s defensive coordinator Sunday in Super Bowl 52.
