McVay said Saturday the team has had ‘increased dialogue’ with Donald’s representatives, according to the Los Angeles Times. He said he was “optimistic” the situation would be resolved.

The 27-year-old defensive lineman is seeking a new contract and skipped Los Angeles’ offseason workouts as well as OTAs. He is “determined not to play” until he gets a new deal, according to an earlier ESPN report.
Rams general manager Les Snead said Wednesday that Donald and the team were “in the same zip code” in negotiations.
Donald, the reigning Defensive Player of the Year, was selected by the Rams with the 13th pick in the 2014 draft. He has been named to the NFL All-Pro first-team the last three seasons and won the Defensive Rookie of the Year award in 2014.
The Rams will play the Raiders in their second preseason game next Saturday. They’ll face Oakland again in Week 1 action Sept. 10.
