The 49ers are back in the big game.

While it hasn't been all that long since San Francisco was in the Super Bowl, it may feel that way for Niners fans. After the 49ers lost to the Chiefs in Super Bowl 54 back in 2020, they went a disappointing 6-10 the following season.

In the two ensuing seasons after that, San Francisco came up short in back-to-back NFC championship games in '22 and '23.

It was almost the same story for this year's 49ers, but San Francisco put together an impressive second-half comeback against the Lions. The Niners scored 27 unanswered points to erase a 17-point deficit and advance back to the Super Bowl, where they will look to claim their sixth championship in franchise history.

But when was the last time the 49ers won the Super Bowl? The Sporting News has answers below.

49ers history in the Super Bowl

The 49ers own a 5-2 record all-time in the Super Bowl. The franchise won its first five Super Bowl appearances but has suffered losses in its past two outings.

San Francisco's five Super Bowl titles are tied for third-most all-time with the Cowboys. It only trails the Patriots and Steelers, who both have six.
