Kenny Pickett injury update: Steelers QB ruled out vs. Cardinals with ankle injury image

Injuries continue to hamper Kenny Pickett in 2023.

Pickett was injured during the second quarter of the Steelers' Week 13 contest against the Cardinals. The Steelers quarterback appeared to hurt his ankle with about five minutes left in the first half.

The team has ruled him out for the rest of the game. With Pickett sidelined, Mitch Trubisky is under center for Pittsburgh.

The second-year signal caller out of Pitt is no stranger to dealing with ailments. Just last week, he hurt his ankle against the Bengals, but finished the game, which resulted in a Pittsburgh win over Cincinnati.

As a result, he came into Week 13 sporting a brace on his right ankle. It's unclear if he re-aggravated the ankle against Arizona, or if it's a different injury. The Steelers quarterback was 7 for 10 for 70 yards before exiting Sunday's contest.

Kenny Pickett injury update

Pickett was injured on a QB scramble up the middle with 5:32 left in the second half.

On third-and-goal from the Cardinals' three-yard line, the QB rushed for a gain of two yards, getting the ball down to the one-yard line. He struggled getting to his feet and did not appear to be putting any weight on his ankle.

After he was able to work his way off the field under his own power, Pickett went to the locker room and was initially ruled questionable to return. The Steelers later downgraded him to out.

Pickett was seen on the Steelers' bench for the second half wearing a walking boot.

Steelers QB depth chart

With Pickett sidelined for the time being, it's Trubisky in at quarterback.

Trubisky is in his second season with Pittsburgh. The No. 2 pick from the 2015 draft has made two appearances so far in 2023, completing 18 passes on 32 attempts for 156 yards, a touchdown and an incompletion.

Last year, Trubisky was the Steelers' starter at the beginning of the year before Pickett was promoted to QB1 after Trubisky was benched in a Week 4 matchup against the Jets.
