CFL player apologizes for tweet about Holocaust image

Montreal Alouettes defensive tackle Kahlif Mitchell has apologized for making an anti-Semitic statement on Twitter.

Mitchell, who briefly played on the San Francisco 49ers’ practice squad in 2009, was also fined an undisclosed amount by the CFL and the Alouettes.

The National Post reported that Mitchell tweeted a link to a video titled "The greatest lie ever told – The Holocaust” on more than one occasion.

"I wholeheartedly apologize to all those who I know I let down by posting those videos, especially those who look up to me as a professional athlete," Mitchell said. "I fell into a trap by watching that video and I hope others can learn from my very public mistake.

"This is a learning moment for me.”

Michael Mostyn, a spokesman for B'nai Brith Canada, issued a joint news release with Mitchell saying the two had talked about the issue.

"I have come to see that he is a very genuine individual who truly did not comprehend the deceptive nature of this vile video," Mostyn said.

Mitchell played his college ball at East Carolina.
