Josh Rosen trade rumors: Cardinals' asking price may be too high for Giants image

The Giants have been one team closely linked to the Josh Rosen trade rumors, but it appears the Cardinals' asking price for the young quarterback may be more than New York is willing to spend.

According to SNY, which cited unidentified sources, the Giants "have no interest in trading either of their first-round picks for Rosen and they believe their third-round pick (95th overall) won't be enough." The Giants have a high second-round pick (37th); however, SNY reports "they don't seem inclined to trade it."

In addition to concerns about the Cardinals' asking price, the Giants are worried about Rosen's "personality and how it would fit in New York." The organization is also questioning how Rosen would "handle the press when, inevitably, things went wrong on the field."

Rosen's future with the Cardinals has come under question in the weeks leading up to the NFL Draft. Many believe the Cardinals will select former Oklahoma quarterback Kyler Murray with the No. 1 overall pick and then trade Rosen.

Giants general manager Dave Gettleman addressed the concern at his pre-draft news conference earlier this week while describing the type of quarterback the Giants would bring into their organization, though he didn't mention Rosen specifically.

"Being a quarterback of a team in this type of market is a load," Gettleman said. "It's a mental load. It's more than just looking at a guy's physical talent. It's about his makeup. … You have to have a mental toughness about you to play the position here in New York."

If the Giants don't end up making a deal for Rosen, there are questions around their future at quarterback with Eli Manning and what they will do at the NFL Draft with the No. 6 and No. 17 picks.

Gettleman, however, put any doubt to rest earlier this week as he said he still believes Manning has a lot left in the tank as the veteran enters his 16th season in the NFL at age 38.

Last season, Manning completed 66 percent of his passes and added 21 touchdowns with 11 interceptions. The Giants finished the regular season with a 5-11 record, but Gettleman was pleased New York showed improvement from its 3-13 campaign in 2017.

“We went into last season believing Eli had a lot left," Gettleman said, per NJ.com. “And he’s proven that.

“We won two more games than the team did the year before. You had all those games that we lost by a point or two. We lost eight games by a touchdown or less. The NFL is tight, tight, tight, a few more plays get you over the top and now you’re winning more.”
