Next Sunday, Cameron Artis-Payne is the next man up for the Carolina Panthers.

Starting running back Jonathan Stewart strained his hamstring in Sunday's 46-27 win over the 49ers, and coach Ron Rivera told reporters Monday “It’s going to be at least a week” before he returns.

But while Fozzy Whitaker came off the bench to rush for 100 yards, and the Panthers also have Pro Bowl fullback Mike Tolbert on the roster, Rivera said Cameron Artis-Payne will likely get the start next Sunday against the Vikings.

Although Payne has been inactive the first two games of the year, he saw extensive playing time the final three games last season when Stewart went out with an injury. He finished the year with 241 yards from scrimmage and one touchdown.
