ESPN's Jon Gruden: 'Right now, I have no intentions of coaching' image

If it's December, then Jon Gruden is answering questions about NFL coaching vacancies.

The former Raiders and Buccaneers coach annually is connected to openings, despite the fact that he's been an analyst on ESPN's "Monday Night Football" for eight years.

In fact, on Wednesday, when Mike Greenberg asked Gruden about his interest in coaching again — and, in particular, with the Rams, who last week fired coach Jeff Fisher — the "Mike & Mike" host prefaced it by saying, "For what feels like the 10th time we've asked you in the 10 years we've been here …"

Gruden's answer, in part: “Right now, I have no intentions of coaching. I really enjoy what I’m doing, and I feel like I’m really close to the fire, and I’m getting plenty of satisfaction out of doing what I’m doing.”

The missed follow-up: Define "right now."

Though Gruden's ESPN contract runs through the 2021 season, the Los Angeles Times reported that unidentified people close to Gruden indicated he would listen to the Rams, pointing out that the team's top executive, Kevin Demoff, worked with Gruden in Tampa.
