When Black Monday comes, it's all but sure the New York Jets will clean house. That means coach Rex Ryan and GM John Idzik will depart, putting an end to a dreadful combination.
Charlie Casserly will have input in replacement of both men, according to media reports. But he will not be working directly for the Jets, according to the New York Daily News.
Rather, Casserly will remain a member of the NFL’s Career Development Advisory Panel, which does background work on coaching candidates. He works in that capacity with Ron Wolf, former Green Bay Packers GM, among others.
Ryan cleaned out his office on Saturday, and it would come as no surprise to learn barrels and bins were toted to Idzik's office as well.
As the Daily News noted, it would seem unlikely owner Woody Johnson would turn to outsiders in his coaching search if he planned to keep his general manager in place.
The biggest surprise of the weekend came when the Jets posted a video on their website that all but eviscerated Idzik and his work since being hired in 2012.
Commentary with the video laid out a scathing list of Idzik's failures as well as his successes. It was still available for viewing late Saturday afternoon, and the New York Post called it another indication that Idzik was a goner.
The video is a shocker for its frankness, as The Star-Ledger of Newark, N.J., notes. Its story details some of the legitimate slaps provided by Eric Allen, the team website's senior reporter.
Idzik's critics are taking no chances. The Star-Ledger says angry Jets fans plan another demonstration at Sunday's game that includes "Fire John Idzik" towels, banners and vocal derision.
It's likely the last time they will be able to do so, as the expected end of Idzik's two-year regime arrives.
The Jets might not wait until Monday.
