Elway '100 percent' supports Goodell on Brady, Patriots ruling image

John Elway thinks justice was done after the NFL handed down its punishment to Tom Brady and the Patriots for their role in Deflategate.

"The integrity of the game is No. 1. ... I support the commissioner 100 percent," the Broncos GM and former NFL quarterback said when asked if the punishment was appropriate at John Lynch's annual scholarship luncheon at Sports Authority Field in Denver.

According to Elway, the punishment didn't greatly affect him because he "knew that Tom Brady was going to be playing in Week 12" against the Broncos in Denver.

Tom Brady was given a four-game suspension without pay and the Patriots were fined $1 million and lost two draft picks after NFL investigators confirmed the likelihood that New England deflated the footballs used in the AFC Championship against the Colts.

Elway is among the latest in the NFL to weigh in on Brady and the Patriots' punishment. Multiple Patriots players vented their frustration on Twitter, while 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick said to "let Tom be great." Elway's quarterback, Peyton Manning, tried to avoid Deflategate questioning altogether, simply calling Brady "a friend."
