A picture posted to Instagram showed Mark Sanchez, D'Brickashaw Ferguson, Bart Scott, Willie Colon and Antonio Cromartie among those carrying McKnight's silver casket from the New Home Ministries church.

“We vacationed together, we spent a lot of time together ... our children played with each other, it's a tough loss,” Scott told WVUE. “Joe had the ability to make everybody feel he was your best friend.”

Family and friends were among the estimated 400 who gathered at the Uptown church for Monday's funeral, a place Sanchez, also a teammate of McKnight's at USC, said he and the former Jets felt they had to be: “There's a brotherhood and camaraderie that we share, so it’s tough to lose someone like that, so we just wanted to show our support."
